Where can you watch free music TV channels?

Vevo shows up in most of these guides because it programs the channels once and hands them to each service, so the same Vevo '90s channel can appear on more than one. Vidiyo sits at the other end, with no major-label catalog. Its music channels are run by the musicians, DJs and curators themselves, some with live sets and chat, and they play in a browser tab without an account.

YouTube deserves its own line. It reached 12.5% of all US TV viewing in May 2025, per Nielsen, the record for any single streamer. TVs are now its number one US device. For on-demand videos it is unbeatable. For lean-back channel viewing, the services above do it better.

Why doesn't MTV play music videos anymore, and what replaced it?

MTV drifted to reality programming decades ago because reruns of shows out-earned videos on cable. The music-channel format did not die, though. It moved to free streaming, where running a channel costs a fraction of a cable network and niche audiences are enough.

That economic shift is the whole story of FAST TV: channels are now cheap enough to launch that genres cable abandoned came back. Around 1,850 free streaming channels existed globally as of August 2025, up 76% since 2023, per Gracenote. Music is one of the genres that benefited most, because music channels are inexpensive to program and perfect to leave on.

The result is arguably better than 1995: instead of one MTV, you get separate channels for pop, hip-hop, country, rock, dance, and specific decades. Nobody interrupts the videos for a dating show.

What is the free experience actually like?
